Immediate Main Street Bridge closure to remove temporary work platform
In preparation for Hurricane Irma, the Main Street Bridge will be temporarily closed today, Wednesday September 6, starting at 10 a.m. until a temporary platform being used by construction crews is completely removed. Crews will work as quickly as possible to remove the platform, however, the closure is expected to extend into the early evening hours. The removal of the platform is precautionary to maintain the safety of both motorists and the bridge in the event of high winds.
Both vehicular and pedestrian traffic will be detoured to the Acosta Bridge. Signs will direct traffic through the detour.
The temporary platform has been used by construction crews since the start of the project to maintain rehabilitation work and limit the number of full-closures to the bridge. Similar precautions were taken during in preparation for Hurricane Matthew.
